During and after the Spanish Civil War, Francisco Franco's Fascist forces mercilessly executed tens of thousands of individuals due to their political beliefs, religious affiliations, or opposition to the regime. Their bodies were ruthlessly burried in anonymous graves scattered across the country.
Almost a century later, those bodies along with personal items are still being exhumed urging us to confront a brutal legacy.
As we approach the Spanish general elections amidst the rise of the far right, unearthing Spain's Fascist Past and the question of how to address Franco's atrocities become more relevant than ever.
